We are excited about the upcoming school year! At Desert View Academy, it is our mission to Educate students with knowledge, Empower students with character, and Equip students for life. We anticipate a terrific year as we build relationships and encourage each student to achieve his/her full potential. ACCELERATED READER (AR)
The 2nd grade AR goal is 40 points, 10 points per quarter

K-5 GRADING PHILOSOPHY & POLICY
Academic grades play an important role in the learning process. By informing students of how grades will be determined, standards and instructional requirements are defined. Report cards inform parents of the degree to which success in learning and mastering essential knowledge and skills has occurred.
At Desert View Academy, we believe that grading serves a purposeful and useful role in our classrooms. The grading policy and procedures follow state-mandated requirements, school policies and guidelines, and reflect professional evaluation by teachers.
Students earn grades; teachers do not give grades. Parents are encouraged to talk to students about schoolwork and grades and contact teachers (first) and administrators (second) whenever there is a question regarding grading.
Student reports are issued electronically eight times per school year: 4 formal report cards at the end of each quarter and 4 progress reports mid-way through each quarter.
Students who are struggling or who are at risk of failure shall be identified early and provided the necessary support to meet state standards and to be prepared for the next instructional level. Teachers shall be actively involved in assessing, evaluating, and communicating the progress of each student with parents/guardians. If a student is not making satisfactory progress in meeting assessment benchmarks, an individual intervention plan may be written and implemented in collaboration with the teacher, the student, and the parent/guardian.

GRADING POLICY
- Class Work - work completed together as a class will not be given a grade
- Independent Work - a letter grade is earned for selected independent assignments
- Unit and Benchmark Tests - these assignments demonstrate mastery of skills and concepts; therefore they are are weighted more
- AR Tests - will be entered weekly into the language arts grade
